The Governing Body

Questions and Answers

Q. What is a Local Governong Body (LGB)?
A. The LGB consists of a group of interested people, some are employed by the school and others are volunteers. The headteacher and the management team run the school on a day-to-day basis, the strategic direction of the school is shared with the governors. The LGB is a committee of the Trust Board.

Q. What are the functions of the Board of Governors?
A. The LGB has the following core functions:

Establishing the strategic direction, by:

  • Supporting the visions, values and objectives for the school
  • Agreeing the school improvement strategy with priorities and targets
  • Meeting statutory duties

Ensuring accountability, by:

  • Supporting the Trust Board in appointment of the headteacher
  • Monitoring progress towards targets
  • Performance managing the headteacher
  • Engaging with stakeholders
  • Contributing to school self-evaluation

Ensuring financial probity, by:

  • Monitoring spending against the budget set by the Trust
  • Ensuring value for money is obtained
  • Ensuring risks to the organisation are managed

Q. What do the Governors do?

A. The formal work and decision making of the LGB is undertaken at meetings held once a term. In addition there are sometimes working parties formed to undertake specific tasks.

Governors have specific interests linked to the School Development Plan and other areas such as health and safety. Governors also visit the school during the school day and make sure that there is evidence of the school delivering its School Improvement Plan. These visits are reported to the LGB.

To contact the LGB:
The list of governors on the school's Board of Governors can be found here.

The register of pecuniary interests will be displayed here after the first LGB meeting of 2022-2023.
