At Leigh-on-Mendip School, assessment is an essential part of our teaching and learning process. We use assessment to:

  • Make informed judgments about each child’s current attainment
  • Keep parents and carers updated on their child’s progress
  • Most importantly, identify the next steps in each child’s learning journey

Ongoing Assessment and Reporting

Teachers make summative assessments throughout the year to track pupil progress. These assessments are shared with parents during parent consultations and in the end-of-year school reports.

We inform parents/carers whether their child is:

  • On track to meet the expected standards for their year group
  • Working within the year group expectations but not yet on track to fully meet them
  • Working below the expectations for their year group

This approach ensures that parents are well-informed and can support their child’s learning effectively at home.

Statutory Assessments

In addition to teacher assessments, children complete national statutory assessments, including:

Phonics Screening Check – End of Year 1

Key Stage 1 Assessments – End of Year 2

Key Stage 2 SATs – End of Year 6

You can find more information on national performance measures on the School and College Performance Measures website here, and view our school’s specific page here.

⚠️ Please note: The government did not publish Key Stage 2 school-level performance data for the 2021–2022 academic year. The most recent publicly available data is from the 2018–2019 academic year, which may not reflect current performance.
